Dear INTECOL Community,

We are very sad and angry following the horrific killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery. These recent events that captured global attention highlight systemic and continued social injustice and discrimination in the United States. The International Association for Ecology (INTECOL) is committed to building and supporting a diverse, equitable, and inclusive community and network of ecologists across the world. We echo the sentiments of the protesters: Black Lives Matter!

INTECOL is an umbrella organisation for ecologists across the world and we aspire to be an open, collaborative and welcoming organisation, treating each other with dignity and fairness, and not discriminating on race, age, gender, disability, education, national origin, political beliefs, religion, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.

We recognise that we have a lot more work to do to ensure our association represents the wonderful diversity of cultures and ecologists across the world.

Recent events have served as reminders to the ecological community of systemic social injustice and the need to provide continued support for diverse and traditionally underrepresented voices by proactively addressing diversity, equity, and inclusion within our association and within our global network.
